This just in from a Village Voice staffer. Their contract ends on Thursday. Negotiations aren’t looking good. So, in classic Voice fashion, they are throwing a big party to raise some money for a “strike fund” if it comes to that by Friday.

We have a union at the Village Voice that’s been around since the ’70s. Our three-year contract is up at the end of the month, June 30. After decimating the staff, management is trying to slash our healthcare benefits and retirement benefits. We’re really hoping that it doesn’t come to a strike, but there’s a distinct possibility.
To honor all the terrific writers and editors and thinkers who came before us and made the Voice what it was and is, we’re pulling together an eleventh hour benefit. Please come celebrate the people behind the paper, and help us raise a little bit of cash in the event we have to go out on strike.
Invite friends! Pass this along.
